Near the end of today's walk, we stopped by C&P for a round of mochas or whatever, where we saw this sign.

Their outdoor seating is quite nice!

On the way home, I delivered the last of the food collected Friday, starting with the Little Free next to Beveridge Place. Technically it may not be a Pantry, but I'm confident there are homeless people around there so they won't go to waste.

I stopped by some of the usual locations and my previous contributions were gone, so I think we're establishing a pattern.

Izzy replied to my email asking if he were available for work on My Palatial Estate. It is hard for me to ask for help on things that I could, in theory, do myself - but it's been 10 years, if it has not been done yet, it will not be done; also I need to spend that pandemic money to keep the economy going!

He'll be by tomorrow to look at projects. I sent him an email with ideas, and did a little prep work around the back.

Friday I got an extra load of food to distribute over the weekend and on Monday, MLK Jr holiday and national day of service. Today I started by walking up to 9th - finding the stuff I'd left there gone, and reloading it - and then walked to the Dog Park to distribute plastic bags for the doggies. While there I noticed a "chutes-and-ladders" style slide on the hillside apparently not quite done yet.

After a shower, my next task was to distribute at least one box of food to the northern group of Little Free Pantries. That took a while but I was happy to see that there were not many items that I'd left yesterday still there. Someone must be eating!

I got home in time for a brief nap before the 2pm zoom meeting about composting. TBH I did not learn much that I didn't already know but Grace is so earnest about helping Camp Second Chance and seems to know a lot about that project that I do not, that I felt obliged to be there and provide support. It ended just in time to start the cooking project with Hannah and Julie. They put a lot more work into their cooking than I am accustomed to, but I must admit the results were nice.

Patio Start

 

I'm determined to clean up my house to the point that I can host a New Year's Party at the end of the year. This means a lot of cleaning and a lot of maintenance; the fence that Brian and Melody have proposed is just the first step.

This week I reorg'd the patio, chucking the work tables because although they are functional, they looked awful and I want nice things. This arrangement is just a start.

Friday I got extra food to distribute because a 3-day weekend was coming up. I suppose that's my Day Of Service thing.
Today - Saturday - I had a Toastmasters Divisional meeting that wiped out Zoomba, then I helped someone from Buy Nothing try to figure out their leaky roof. I had conveniently forgotten the dread of getting off the roof - that moment of moving from a nice solid roof to a potentially slippy ladder, but I was wise enough to call them on my phone and ask them to hold the ladder, and then felt ok. I cleaned the gutter which they were sure was the problem, but I think there's also a design problem in that a flat roof that much beat least 20x20 is drained by a 1 inch pipe and I don't see how that can possibly avoid backing up when we get a storm. Oh well.

Educational Cat Feeder

THE PROMISE:
This is a combination feeding station and educational cat toy. Just remove the lid and fill the top level with kibble! Your cats will enjoy pawing through the gaps and knocking the kibble into the tray to eat. Everyone has fun!
THE REALITY:

• Ginny figured it out immediately, played with it for a while, got bored and ignored it ever after.
• Imp stared at it for an hour. I showed her how to do it with my finger. She ate the kibble and stared for another hour. I gently took her paw and used it to knock kibble lose. She ate the kibble and stared for another hour.
• Shadow looked at it, looked at me, and maowed, "Why? WHY?" --

After a month of this, I gave it away on "Buy Nothing Highland Park". It WAS educational - for me at least.

Me, Soy and Leigh ready to distribute the FEEST!

Friday we had another lunch distribution for Seattle Food Empowerment and Education Sustainability Team (FEEST) [https://www.feestseattle.org/ ]. Food is the basis of health!
Leigh (yellow coat) is our team leader. Soy (black coat) is someone I shopped a lot of groceries with this summer. Funny thing: I don't remember seeing them without a mask!
