A memory of my first job interview after undergraduate college:
Not thinking things through, I had gum surgery the day before the interview. The surgeon stuck a wad of something over the cutting, which felt like a piece of gum the size of my thumb but probably wasn't.
I could not pronounce half the consonants in the alphabet. Figuring that this would sound bad in an interview, I called HR to helpfully explain. They listened to my barely-understandable voice and said, ok, don't call us, we'll call you.
As you can imagine, they didn't.
Just one of those things that may have affected the entire course of my life. It seems funny now.
