My Business Cards

Remember Business Cards?

As I clear out stuff I don't need, I'm working through my collection of business cards. If I don't remember the person, I just recycle it - I may have gotten it from a booth at a convention or something. If I remember the person, I scan the card into a PDF and save in my "business card" folder. Who knows if it will ever matter. But if it has MY name on it, I put the PDF into the business card folder, and then an image into my personal folder. Each of my business cards is a bit of my history.

Giving Thanks

Most Arroyo houses were way better than this

Thanksgiving Day I slept in as long as the cats would allow, then went over to Julie and Hannah's for our morning walk an hour later than usual. We drove to the Arroyo area which had intimidating slope down to the beach, but going back was not that bad really. Perhaps we are in training from the Frontenac route up to Highpoint, perhaps it was the novelty of the scenery.

I intended to do the Thanksgiving Zumba even but napped through it, oh well.

Around lunchtime I opened up Zoom for the Bloat - an annual tradition of the "MSU Hobbits" group of friends I'd known since college. Many of them ended up in NYC and lived in the more affordable Hoboken, and though we'd all drifted through the years, still on Thanksgiving several dozen gathered there for a feast. That was not possible this year so Sandy, our den mother, proposed a zoom meeting and gaming. There were 6-8 of us at any one time, which is way down from the face-to-face events but not bad, all things considering. Early on it was just Sandy and me talking while she baked pumpkin bread in her kitchen and I scanned my 25 year collection of business cards. We arranged to try game night Friday.

View From Alki

Friday was another walk, this time up at Alki which had beautiful views of the water, mountains and city as usual. I did about 40 GOTV letters while listening to TED talks, having resolved to use up all my stamps. I have to Dec 7 to do another 100 more, which seems quite doable. I then opened zoom for gaming, mostly Codenames since it hits the sweet spot of being challenging enough to be interesting but not so messing in the scoring system that one has to spend too much time thinking about mechanics. My absolute favorite clue was Stewart's "Frappe 2", which I correctly guess as "milk" (d'uh) and "helicopter" (because frappes are made in a blender and a helicopter was the closest thing to a blender that was on the board.) The mental process may seem odd but that's much of the fun of the game!

I didn't get a heck of a lot else done today but I suppose that is part of the point of taking a little time off.

Ready to give thanks....

...all things considered, I'm better off than most people - I have a home, an income, food and friends although no intimates.

I enjoyed this inspiring Thanksgiving address

I prepared at least 20 GOTV letters for Georgia today, to be mailed as I go by USPS tomorrow.

tomorrow should be busy, what with the morning walk, Zumba Thanksgiving special, and then the Hobbit Bloat by Zoom. I'll be ready to rest when this is done!

I've been practicing Lost Cities on Board Game Arena, and think I'm getting the hang of it. No way to tell until I play against another person, of course, but my performance in the first couple of games playing Julie/Hannah was no great, probably because I didn't really understand the game.

Two Dudes Fishing

Tuesday our walk was down to Lincoln Park, where we saw these two fishing.

I also liked this artistically decorated boulder.

Bag Of Shiny Rocks

I put ten years' accumulation of polished rocks up on Buy Nothing, secure in the knowledge that I don't really have a use for them. They're too nice just to pour into a rock garden.

Yet Another Refi?

Today I worked on refinancing - something I had not planned to do since I refi'd earlier this year, but rates are so low that it's tempted. I paid a little to lock in 2.75% but then connected with another broker who could go even lower - at a lesser fee - so I'm going to have to chalk up the fee to procedure.

It's an exciting time both politically and personally!

Weekend Update

Friday started with another fine walk; Saturday I walked only briefly, delivering food to the various little free pantries and depositing a chck from some sort of class action litigation; Sunday I walked again and was happy to see that the16th Ave pantry was empty. I refilled it with what I had (mostly oranges - for some reason, I can't get enthused about oranges. I'm eating at least 3 pieces of fruit a day but not oranges.)

My walk today include at least 16 blocks of jogging at least 40 paces (full two-step paces) which was just enough to get my heart pumping but not my body complaining. I think I can keep this up until I'm in shape to take it to the next level.

After walking, I did a full round of madfit, christine khuri and yoga by kassandra, but also put on some cat tv for Ginny. There are times where she or imp make their wishes know about it!

Saturday night was our fortnightly DnD session; Sunday was Codenames. I'm learning to adapt to some social gaming which is nice especially in Covid time.
Sometime during the weekend I met via zoom with Alice and another about a replacement for Alice's annual holiday showing of The Polar Express. Obviously that's not practical now but she was thinking of some sort of scavenger hunt, in which players would go places in West Seattle and take selfies. I can help some but I need to be clear of my limits.

Satuday I had signed up to be on a panel for TM D2 but I forgot and didn't do my daily planning until the panel was way over. I apologized of course, but what I really learned was to do my daily planning early every day. Let's hope I retain that learning.
