The Little Snoopy Free Library

Normally on Saturdays I have Zoomba in the morning, but the pandemic has moved that to Zoom, which is not nearly as compelling as in person.
According to Google Fit on my phone, I walked 1.58 miles in 42 minutes, from home down to the fabric collection bin on Delridge Way (where I probably dropped off a bag of clothes) and then up to feed the ducks as usual. Along the way I saw the Snoopy Library.

Friday Flowers and Fishing

A really fun house!
Little free poetry library - take a poem!
What are those pink skeleton things??
King Kale is taller than I am!
A Dahlia almost as big as my head!
Bee sunflower
Cool front yard garden with old school waterpipe

Hooray for sunflowers
Lots of small boats in the Sound; later we learned it was salmon season.
I picked up a couple of boxes of masks from the Seattle Mask Brigade depot...
...for delivery in Bellevue - my longest drive in months!

In the evening, I had the opportunity to be social by participating in Board Game Arena but was too occupied with whatever. There's a lot of cleaning and whatnot to do around here.

Thursday Plants

Lots of great flowers on our walk today, and plenty of bees.

We had our Coffee Bar on Beacon Hill!

At home, my Oregon Grapes are busting out!

Sylveastan Tree

When I was active in the Society for Creative Anachronism, our house badge was an apple tree with red apples on one side and green on the other; this was the design of the house Knight, Syr Merowald. The phenomenon has always appealed to me, even though I now know it is an artifice. I saw such a tree today and it did not fail to interest.
Later in the day, I did a couple of mystery shops. I am not sure that it is a wise use of time since I do not need the money any more than usual, but I had been directly asked to do an Eat Local shop and their food is very tasty! Mostly I am trying to figure out my new relationship between time and money during this odd pandemic time.

Also on Tuesday

I mentioned to my walk buddies that Heather told me she was moving to the Eastside in a few months, and that I was planning to take the opportunity of an empty apartment to replace the carpet with vinyl flooring. Julie mentioned one of the time bankers was looking for a place to rent. Wow what luck! However, when I contacted the timebanker by email, she had already found a situation but thanked me anyway. I feel confident that when the time is right, something will come along. Who knows, maybe I'll marry someone with a lot of kids ;-)

A few days ago I helped William Nute by taking about 20 pots of plants to give away through Buy Nothing. Someone took a 2-foot-high maple and later asked if it was a coral bark. Today I stopped by William's again to pick up pots he wanted to moved on. He said he'd raised that maple from a seed from the tree in his front yard, so I took this picture of the mother tree and sent it to the new tree parents..

Since they were interested in a coral bark maple, I offered the one at my house, which I have never liked. I had made it clear that I wanted to plant a fruit trees at the house when we finally got it, so that we would harvest food from our backyard. Larry and Ginger gifted us at Christmas with this coral maple. I had to be gracious and thank them, and plant it when the house was finally ours, because that's good manners. I should have taken it as a sign of things to come.
The maple tree people expressed enthusiasm over this tree and were willing to dig it this weekend but I said I was concerned this might not be the right time to transplant. We agreed to do this in the fall. I am pleased that I will soon be getting a replacement, perhaps a plum or a fig.
I did a couple of mystery shops today. The money is not really significant but it's a little something to do and who knows whether I'll need the money later. It is difficult to break the habit of feeling I am constantly having to work to stay afloat, even though I have enough for a modest existence as is.

Sunflowers and Ducks

Today as we walked we say sunflowers that we knew as little seedlings now taller than our heads.
Multiple mortgage companies are reaching out to me hoping, I suppose, to get some refinancing fees. I doubt that the effective interest rate for me will go lower but it's ok if anyone wants to try.
On my nightly walk, which I usually start by tossing greens to the ducks, I decided to get a photo of them.

Months ago, I had signed up to give a speech at SPEAKOUT today, as a way of pushing myself to get it done. As the target date loomed, I decided that, rather than write an original speech, I would re-give "Mrs. Zardelli's Ghost Zucchini" to see if I had actually improved my skills.
I am still dissatisfied with the punch line, but otherwise I feel there has been much improvement. Part of this is my increased willingness to pause, but the biggest is in learning to be appropriately animated, and within the confines of the TV screen. At the last moment, I added a prop jar and at the very end looked through it to the camera, to emphasize that the ghosts were gone! It entertained everyone. I must try something like this more often.

Cat Estimates

Today I got the estimates for teeth cleaning for Shadow and Imp. On the one hand, it's more than I spend on myself - each! On the other hand, if it is necessary then it is necessary and there is no use dithering. I am financially secure enough, so I am going ahead and making the appointments.
I am helping William Nute clear out stuff like firewood and potted flowers. Most I am giving away but I like the rose
Artichoke flower and bee seen on walk

Bee On Radish Flower

Bee On Radish Flower

I slept in due to having been up late DND'ing last night.
I used the external heat sensor readout to decide when it had cooled enough to turn off the AC; I was concerned about the system engaging the heating system if night temperatures dropped but I now realize I can just run the system "Cool Only".
For Tuesday, I decided to give "Mrs. Zardelli's Ghost Pumpkins" again trying to follow the Engaging Humor path and do better with storytelling. I'm practising.

I tried calling William Nute again, and got through, and drove to his place. He explained his situation a little more; the house appears to be jointly owned by four siblings and at least some of them want to cash out whereas he wants to fix it up. I can help either way by moving on some things through Buy Nothing, notably potted plants of which there are a great many thanks to his former landscaping business, and firewood/kindling from his other business. I took a lot of pots and soon got takers on Buy Nothing.
It is hot so I'm not doing a whole lot of yardwork. The radishes gone to flowering are very interesting!
