Monopoly Cheaters Edition

THIS IS A REAL THING NOW: I'm not saying that we played this version as kids, and I'm not saying we didn't. I'm just saying it took Hasbro a while to catch up ;-).
I was picking up cat food in Target and took a spin around the store just to see what's in ... and saw this OMG surely a sign of our times!

A little retro music for the flu season!

You don't see stuff like this every day ;-)

Summer Snowy Volcano Here

When the weather is dreary, I like to be reminded that at times we have casually spectacular views. "Oh hey, it's a snow-covered volcano. No big deal."
This photo is from a bus ride across Lake Washington some months ago. It is thoroughly unexceptional around here!

Federal Reserve Building refurbishing

This was a cool old building maybe 4 stories high, with a fancy stone exterior across the street from my workplace. They removed the marble, gutted the works, left the exterior walls held up by skeletal bracing and built a modern steel framework inside. Now they're working on a glass tower above the original ( you can see my building reflected in the glass).
The plan seems to be to put the marble back eventually so from the ground it'll still seem cool. Meanwhile some workers are hanging out in a window finishing something or just taking a break.

  • She owes $340,000 after undergrad, graduate, and law school debt. That's a lot but not surprising. The rest is her husband's debt. Calling her morally unfit to be a lawyer because she is married seems odd.
  • No doubt she is litigious, although it's not surprising that there was some litigation when she's managing a contentious estate. But being litigious is not an ethical failing - or we'd have a lot fewer lawyers in business!
  • Her minimum-wage lawsuit was apparently meritorious (it settled to her advantage), and maybe THIS is the reason to Bar doesn't want her: she sued a lawyer that she was working for, demanding minimum wage. I don't know what their original agreement might have been, but he is the one who should be under investigation - both for violating wage laws and for being a schmuck.
  • According to the report, some of the cases she filed were thrown out for not have the paperwork right. Well, isn't that the point of law school - teaching you how to "think like a lawyer"?
  • There is no reason to pay any attention to the failed motion to get her labeled a vexatious litigant. There's nothing in the report that suggests the motion worked, so why is it in the report? Anybody can accuse their opponent of being vexatious - and maybe she is - but considering a failed motion as evidence for the truth of its claim is simply wrong.
  • That law school that took her money needs to back her up, or it's admitting it did a bad job.

You Must Bee The Change You Want To See

"Minnesota just allocated nearly a million dollars in incentives for people to transform their lawns into bee-friendly wildflowers, clover and native grasses. The state is asking citizens to stop spraying herbicide, stop mowing so often, and let their lawns re-wild into a more natural state. The goal is to provide “food sources for pollinators of all kinds, but will specifically aim at saving the rusty patched bumblebee, a fat and fuzzy species on the brink of extinction that seems to be making its final stand in the cities of the Upper Midwest,” the Star Tribune reports....."

They call me The Rock

I was at the VA Hospital today, with Cyril, to drop of some pizzas for the staff in support of their work, when I got diverted due to losing the gift card. When I got back from the pizza place, Cyril had gone on to talk about stuff with the staff and suggested I wait there and he'd be along soon.
Therefore I went into the Healing Garden to take my daily photo and what struck me was trying to stick my head on top of one of the big rocks stuck there for decor. I had hoped to make a joke about having abs of steel and chest of rock, but the shorter title stuck in my head so here we are.
I am not especially pleased about my wrinkles and sparsening hair, but this is me so get used to it!
