Donations

Why does my couch look like this, and how can you help?

This month's community service project is helping to fill a shipping container with medical supplies for a Medical & Dental Clinic in disaster-struck Lebanon. You Can Help Too!

Have you got anything that you no longer use but that a clinic uses, such as...
* Wheelchairs, walkers, crutches ...
* Consumables such as gauze, pads, vinyl gloves ...
* Over-The-Counter medications and vitamins
* If a clinic uses it, they need it!

If you're in Western Washington and can get it to me, I'll get it to them (I'm in Seattle, the collection point is in Marysville). Otherwise ... check out the Amazon Wish List: https://www.amazon.com/.../ls/38SQY7GQ4R5EK/ref=hz_ls_biz_ex [For the "Ship-To" pick "SCM C/O CostPlus Furniture's Gift Registry Address"] That's a handy way to ensure your donations go directly into something that will change a life for the better - imagine how you would feel as a patient receiving such a gift!

Alyssum and BLM

Alyssum and more on the wall with a BLM sign.

Car Free

I have been six months without a car, more or less by choice. It is now a lifestyle.
My wonderful 1999 Saturn SL1, purchased new and run 218,000 miles, needed a new trani and it's hard to get parts. I chose to let it go and see how life goes in West Seattle without one. Thank you faithful friend; you have served me well.
1. My feet can take me to all the groceries I need. I have learned to shop for as much as fits in my backpack, and if I need more, then go back tomorrow. The round trip is 3100 steps, which is a good start on my daily 10,000.
2. Our bus system takes me wherever else I need to go. I'm getting a lot more reading in than I did when I drove everywhere.
3. Every now and then I can rent a car for a day with unlimited mileage. It's way cheaper than owning it all the time.
I can see that this lifestyle would not be for everyone. I have the time to walk a lot - and need the exercise; the bus and convenient stores are key; I don't have anyone depending on me to provide transportation. However, for me this has been pretty much a plus, especially when I see the money I am not spending on gas,

Toyota Sun Pentagram

 My morning walk was with Julie after her morning meeting. We walked around Delridge, saw that the donut store was not open, and explored some streets I have not walk down. Of several interesting images, the one that sticks in my mind is the Pentagram created by the sun shining on a Toyota hubcap.

What does it mean?!?!?! lol
