Pondering Pie

I asked "Apple Pie is made of apples, Pumpkin Pie is made of pumpkins, What's the deal with Shepherd's Pie?" And Facebook friends replied:
Susanne Howard Shepherds pie is easy to make and eat. Just don't think about what it is made from I am making banana cream pie for tonight. It's ok to think about what it takes to make it
Ellen Winnie All depends where you source your meat.
NaShea Ridgeway It's lamb. Shepherd = 🐑
Andrew Dianiska most recipes I’ve come across are beef- what up wit dat
Aloysius McMurphy Andrew Dianiska If it’s beef, it’s properly Cottage Pie. I prefer it, but tastes differ.

Andrew Dianiska You’d think so, but apparently USA does it different https://www.onceuponachef.com/recipes/shepherds-pie.html
NaShea Ridgeway Andrew Dianiska Beef recipes are actually "country pie". Shepherd's pie is lamb.
Andrew Dianiska linked THREE recipes titled shepherds pie made w beef- apparently the category is more broadly applied. I used to insist it was lamb until I kept running across folk who made it w beef and googled around. Your argument isn’t w me, I’ve no dog in this fight
NaShea Ridgeway Andrew Dianiska LOL. They're just wrong, but it doesn't matter. It's like "Kleenex" is a brand name, but people use it to mean any tissue.
Andrew Dianiska tissues are alway made of paper.
Again, if half the folk call it SP when made w beef...
Hannah van Oijen You are all right. The only thing Shepherd's pie isn't made of, is shepherds. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shepherd%27s_pie
Randall E. Winn The OnceUponAChef link explicitly states that the traditional shepherd's pie is lamb, which makes sense because shepherds have a lot better access to sheep then they do to beeves. I don't mind people adapting recipes but if it's got beef we should call it cowboy pie.
Just don't call it cow pie!
Andrew Dianiska Hannah van Oijen Which I believe was the OPoint.
Hannah van Oijen Andrew Dianiska Ah great, another man pointing out the obvious. I should have added a ;).
Andrew Dianiska op is a man- so...💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻
Justin Gelsinger I think it was traditionally lamb when that was considered a cheap, accessible meat, then transitioned to ground beef over the years as that became cheap and plentiful while lamb became a luxury protein. Lots of "peasant" style dishes work that way
Andrew Dianiska DADT
Randall E. Winn Carlos Espinoza
Carlos Espinoza I like pie
Danny Berry you sure you wanna ask that question?
Randall E. Winn Danny Berry I'm sure I don't want to know the answer LOL
Mark Edward Minie :)
David Seltzer Using the same criteria....what’s in pot pie?
Randall E. Winn David Seltzer there's never enough pot in that pie lol
Christine Brush David Seltzer originally it was chicken pot pie made from leftover chicken, but shortened it to just pot pie cause they were to lazy to say chicken pot pie.
David Seltzer Christine Brush 😎😎😎
Mari Wilson I'm more worried about shoefly pie.
Tempest Moore As long as u know what's in (singing voice) The best pies in london
Michael Pound you walk funny after mince pies
