Planted This Week (Starting May 27, 2013)

The Chard in the Yard
Is now taller than me!
During the week starting Monday May 27, 2013 (Memorial Day) I planted:

  • An Early Girl tomato gifted to us from our friends Katherine and Ralph. We were at Big Al's on Sunday and they had an extra tomato
  • Some Creeping Thyme ground cover. This is nice stuff that fills in gaps between our patio and the walkway. It never needs to be mowed - I'd be happy for it to take over our yard! We got this at Village Green.
  • More Nasturtiums. These grow from seed very well and fit in odd spaces, such as decorative containers calling out for plants. If you treat them well they can leave you seeds to save for next year or give away. The only real downside of Nasturtiums is that they are quite vulnerable to aphids, but I suppose on the plus side they attract the aphids away from other plants.
  • An onion that had sprouted more than Kris was comfortable went into the raised bed, behind the tomatoes. I think the tomatoes will overshadow it until their season is over, and then the onion will gradually grow through spring. We'll see!
I may plant more stuff through the rest of the week. Who knows?
