We Are American - We Have No King
Were you here from the start?
Or come over the sea?
Our home is America
Land of the free.
Free to be different
To let your heart sing:
We are American,
We Have No King.
We want no king,
No commissar.
Democracy matters,
That is who we are.
A nation of Law
Let freedom ring!
We are American,
We Have No King.
No nation is perfect,
And neither are we,
But we keep on trying,
We dare to be free.
Together we march,
United we sing:
We are American,
We Have No King.
Yes,
We are American,
We Have No King!

Commentary
Before the first No Kings day of protest, I pondered our need for a song to sing that we marched that expressed love of our people and our country. We can't give up the concept of patriotism to the fascists!
Yet our common stock of song seemed lacking. Traditional patriotic songs seemed bombastic, exclusionary or unsingable by most people.
So one was written around the fundamental phrase of "We Are American, We Have No King"
